Halloween Eve

We carved pumpkins after work in anticipation of tomorrow. I was lazy this year and kept them simple… one scared face and one drunken face (so I carved two). Usually I would carve a pattern and peel the skin away to add an extra “tone” to the image but I wasn’t feeling the artistic inspiration today. Nonetheless, I think they look pretty decent… I don’t have any pics of them yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Since I stayed late at work to carve the pumpkins, I didn’t have much time tonight so I made a very quick meal: guu yaki udon (translated: Beef stir-fried udons) with mushroom and katsuo flakes (a type of dried fish flakes).  Below is a pic of my Guu-inspired dish (Guu being a Japanese izakaya; three locations in Vancouver). Oh yeah, and that’s bok choy on the side (gotta get my veggies right?).

Rented “The Breakup” and “2046” this weekend. I really enjoyed “2046,” a movie about a writer trying to find his way in life, love, and his memories of a previous relationship that failed. Wonderful story (albeit a non-liner story line which features a collage of the narrator’s memories, the stories he writes, and his current situation), fantastic acting, and beautifully shot. Would have to say it definitely made it into my grade “A” movie category. If you want to turn you brain off and watch something less dramatic, well, “The Breakup” was also very entertaining. Especially the line, “I’m sorry but my feelings for you have changed.” Hmmmm…. where have I heard that one before? Classic.

Have a Happy Halloween tomorrow folks.

  1. I saw The Breakup on the plane back home – it definitely wasn’t the funny ha-ha movie I expected it to be (Although the trailer did show most/all of the funny parts).

  2. Welcome back Bryan. Cat too… and happy belated birthday guys.
